Why padel can provoke symptoms

The Achilles tendon transfers force from the calf during running and push-offs. Repeated explosive movements and abrupt changes in activity can contribute to tendon pain. Morning stiffness or pain with loading can occur, but a clinician must assess the cause.

Manage the demands on your body

Avoid repeatedly testing painful jumps or sprints. Tendon rehabilitation often involves a tailored progression of strength and load. A sudden pop, marked weakness or inability to push off needs urgent assessment for a possible rupture.

  • Notice which movements provoke symptoms and how you feel the following day.
  • Reduce or pause aggravating activity instead of repeatedly playing through worsening pain.
  • Consider technique, recovery time and your recent change in court hours.

When to see a physiotherapist

Seek an individual assessment if pain persists, worsens, recurs or affects everyday movement or your ability to play. A physiotherapist can examine movement, strength and your history, then help identify an appropriate plan. Significant trauma, severe pain, fever, numbness or loss of function may require medical assessment first.

Return to the court, not just a pain-free day

Recovery is more than the absence of symptoms at rest. Your ability to tolerate strength work, controlled movement and progressively more demanding court activity matters. Build from manageable sessions towards full play and monitor both immediate symptoms and the response the next day. There is no universal recovery timetable.
